This is the final result of the pile of vintage French magazines and the mannequin... I've called her Edith because... well read on!
I tried to come up with all sorts of ways to avoid using the original magazines to cover her. I photocopied them onto tea-stained paper, I copied them onto thin paper, thick paper...but nothing reproduced the lovely soft colours and the texture of the originals in the right way. In the end I took a deep breath and just did it. Once I got going it was OK, I didn't use any of the covers and I only needed one and a bit magazines to cover her. Once she was done, I loved her; I had no regrets at all - hence the name!
With the left over bits from the second magazine I covered a series of 5 stacking boxes that I've had for ages and kept meaning to do something with.
By the end I was rather sick of being covered with glue and varnish so it might be best to move on for a while! Although...
...my mind did start to drift to the pile of vintage copies of Practical Householder that I've been hoarding - maybe a little companion for Mme Edith, if I can find her male equivalent!
